VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft System) Keys & Bypass

Older GM car cranks but won't start, security light flashing? It's often the VATS resistor key — we fix it on site.
What is VATS
VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft System, also called PASS-Key) is used on many GM vehicles from the late 1980s to early 2000s — Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac, Oldsmobile. The key blade has a resistor pellet; the car starts only if it reads the correct resistance value.
Symptoms
Security or theft light on or flashing
Engine cranks but won't start, or won't crank at all
Car starts only after waiting 10 minutes
What we do
Measure the resistor value and cut a matching VATS key
Diagnose worn ignition contacts and wiring
Repair or replace the ignition where the VATS wiring has failed
